Opening an account
What exactly is CryptoIBAN?
It is a euro account with a Belgian IBAN in your own name, which you fund by converting your crypto-assets. You use it to pay by SEPA transfer to the 41 countries of the SEPA schemes: rent, bills, contractors, tax bills. CryptoIBAN is a brand: conversions are carried out by a crypto-asset service provider authorised under MiCA, and the account and transfers by an authorised e-money institution.
Who can open an account?
Adults in an eligible country can create their login online. Enter your first and last name, then make an initial deposit of at least $500. Your IBAN is usable after payment confirmation.
Do I need to live in Belgium to get a Belgian IBAN?
No. You can live in another country: the checks simply need to be completed; the BE prefix says nothing about where you live and does not change your tax residence. If your country is on the EU list of high-risk third countries, as Monaco is (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/1184), expect enhanced checks.
What do I need to activate my account?
Enter your first and last name, then make an initial deposit of at least $500. Your IBAN is usable once the payment is confirmed.
When is my IBAN usable?
Once your first and last name are saved and your initial deposit of at least $500 is confirmed. Confirmation time depends on the crypto network. You can follow the payment in your account.
Can I open an account in my company’s name?
No. The account is personal: it is opened in your name, and that is the name your payees see. If you are self-employed, you can use it to pay your contractors and suppliers, but it remains in your personal name.
IBAN & transfers
Is a Belgian IBAN accepted in France, Spain or Germany?
Yes, by law: within the European Union, a landlord, a supplier or a public body may not refuse your payment because of the country of your IBAN (Regulation (EU) 260/2012, art. 9). Refusals still happen: the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) received 4,688 complaints about it between 2021 and early 2025. If it happens to you, send a letter citing article 9, then report the refusal on SignalConso in France or, elsewhere, to your European Consumer Centre; our guide to IBAN discrimination includes a template letter.
Will my landlord see that the money comes from crypto?
Transfers use the account holder’s name. Enter your first and last name accurately when opening the account and include the payment reference requested by your recipient.
What is Verification of Payee?
A check that has been mandatory in the euro area since 9 October 2025 (Regulation (EU) 2024/886): before a transfer, the name you enter is compared with the name of the IBAN holder. There are four possible results: match, close match (with the suggested name), no match, or check not possible; the decision to send remains yours. An IBAN in your own name gives a clean match, whereas a pooled account (a platform’s IBAN plus a reference) usually returns “no match”. Our Verification of Payee guide covers each case.
How long does a SEPA transfer take?
By the next business day at the latest: that is the maximum time set by the Payment Services Directive (art. 83) for the payee’s account to be credited. Instant SEPA transfers are not offered at this time: for a deadline, send your transfer at least one business day ahead, allowing for weekends and public holidays.
Can I schedule my rent?
Yes: you set up the monthly transfer once (amount, payee, reference), then it goes out every month, with a PDF receipt for each payment. It is paid from your euro balance, so convert enough in advance to cover each rent payment.
Are there limits or a minimum amount?
Yes. Each transfer must be at least €10, and your limits, set according to your profile and the checks completed, are displayed in your account before you send anything. For a large or unusual amount, you may be asked for documents on the source of funds.
Can I cancel a transfer sent by mistake?
Not on your side: once executed, a transfer cannot be cancelled. If you make a mistake, contact us straight away; a recall request can be sent to the payee’s provider, but the outcome is not certain. Before each transfer, check the IBAN, the amount and the result of the name check.
A supplier insists on direct debit: how can I pay?
Ask to pay by SEPA transfer instead, quoting the invoice reference or your customer number with each payment. CryptoIBAN is built to send transfers: do not count on it for that payment method.
Can I receive transfers on my IBAN?
That is not what it is designed for: CryptoIBAN is built for paying, and the account is funded by converting your crypto-assets. Receiving transfers, from an employer or from clients for example, is not part of the offer presented on this site. If you need it, ask us before opening an account: the exact features are set out in the contract.
Deposits & conversion
Which crypto can I deposit?
USDT on Tron (TRC20) or Ethereum (ERC20), BTC on Bitcoin, ETH on Ethereum, and SOL on Solana. Select the exact asset and network in the payment modal.
Can I deposit USDT?
Yes. USDT is available on Tron (TRC20) and Ethereum (ERC20). Choose the network before opening the payment modal, then send the exact amount to the address shown. The minimum deposit is $500.
What happens if I send on the wrong network?
Your crypto may be lost permanently. Each deposit address is for one asset on one network: check that the network selected in your wallet or on your exchange is exactly the one shown with the address. If it happens, contact us at once with the transaction ID: we will tell you whether anything can be attempted, but we cannot promise recovery.
How long does a deposit take to arrive?
It depends on the network: a deposit is counted once it has a set number of confirmations, which take more or less time depending on the network and how busy it is. Once the deposit is confirmed, you are shown a quote, and the conversion only happens when you confirm it.
Can I deposit from an exchange?
Yes, if your account on that exchange is in your name and it supports withdrawals on the network shown with your deposit address. The transfer then carries your originator information, as required by Regulation (EU) 2023/1113 on transfers of funds. Any withdrawal fee charged by the exchange goes to the exchange and is outside our control.
How do I pay from my own wallet?
Choose a deposit amount of at least $500, then select the asset and network. Send the exact crypto amount to the address displayed in the payment modal, with network fees paid separately.
Can the value of my crypto change before conversion?
Depositing crypto and converting it into euros are separate actions. After payment confirmation, open Convert to review the rate, fees and net euros. USDT tracks the dollar, so its euro value can change.
Fees
How much does CryptoIBAN cost?
Opening the account costs €0, with no subscription (€0 a month). You pay 1% on each crypto-to-euro conversion, all included, and each SEPA transfer costs €0. The only addition is the network fee paid to the blockchain when you deposit, which does not go to CryptoIBAN; the pricing page has the full breakdown.
How is the rate set?
The simulator shows an indicative rate based on the public price of a major exchange (Kraken). Before each conversion, you see a firm price (MiCA, art. 77): the rate, the 1% fee and the exact amount in euros. That is the price that applies, locked as soon as you confirm.
Is there a hidden spread?
No. The 1% fee covers everything: no hidden margin is added to the rate, and the quote shows the exact amount in euros before you confirm. For USDT, the rate reflects the euro–dollar exchange rate, but our fee remains 1%.
Who pays the network fees?
You do, when you send from your wallet or exchange: they are paid to the blockchain, not to CryptoIBAN. The amount depends on the network you choose and is usually shown before you send, which is one more reason to pick your network carefully among those supported.
What is the price above €20,000 a month?
Above €20,000 a month, pricing is quoted on request. Give your expected monthly amount in your account application, or write to us to discuss it.
Security & account
Is CryptoIBAN a bank?
No. Your account is an e-money account, held with an authorised e-money institution, not a deposit account. The euros on it are therefore not deposits and earn no interest.
Who provides the services, and how can I check?
A crypto-asset service provider authorised under MiCA for crypto services, and an authorised e-money institution for the account and transfers; their names and licence numbers are set out in the contract you receive before opening. Since the MiCA transitional period ended on 1 July 2026, a provider must be authorised or notified: check the one named in your contract in the ESMA register. In Belgium, the FSMA had not authorised any crypto-asset service provider as of 9 October 2026: services there are provided by providers authorised in another member state.
Is my money protected if something goes wrong?
Your euros are safeguarded, but they are not covered by deposit guarantee schemes. They are not held by CryptoIBAN but by the partner e-money institution, which must keep them separate from its own funds; crypto-assets, for their part, are not covered by any compensation scheme. The redemption terms for your e-money are set out in the institution’s contract, provided before opening.
Is CryptoIBAN anonymous?
Your account is in the first and last name you provide. Protect access with a unique password and two-factor authentication. Transfers must include accurate recipient details.
How is my account protected?
With two-factor authentication, which protects access to your account. We will never ask for your recovery phrase, your passwords or your codes: any message asking for them in our name is a fraud attempt. Do not click any link, check that you are on cryptoiban.com and report the message to us.
Can my funds be blocked?
A transaction can be put on hold while a check required by law takes place, for example on the source of funds or, above €1,000, on the ownership of a self-hosted wallet. The source of your funds is checked at opening, and if a document is missing, we tell you which one. A person answers your questions within 24 business hours.
Tax & reporting
Do I have to declare this account?
Yes, if your country of tax residence requires it. A French tax resident, for example, must declare every account opened abroad (form 3916, and 3916-bis for digital-asset accounts), or face a €1,500 fine per undeclared account. We do not give tax advice: check your obligations with your tax authority or an adviser.
Is my account reported to tax authorities?
Your tax and reporting obligations depend on your country and situation. Keep your transaction records and consult your tax authority or adviser.
Is converting crypto into euros taxable?
Often, yes: the conversion may be taxable in your country of tax residence. Since 1 January 2026, for instance, Belgium has taxed capital gains made by its residents on financial assets, crypto included, at 10%. Before a large conversion, check with your tax authority or an adviser.
Does a Belgian IBAN change my tax residence?
No. Your tax residence depends on your personal situation, not on the country of your IBAN; you declare it at opening, and it determines which country your information is reported to. Opening this account therefore changes neither your tax nor your reporting obligations.
Does this account change my tax obligations?
A Belgian IBAN does not change your tax residence or remove your reporting obligations. Ask your tax authority or adviser which rules apply to your situation.
Can you help me fill in my tax return?
We do not give tax advice. Your PDF statements and receipts record your transactions, which makes your accountant’s or adviser’s job easier. For the rules to know, our guide to tax reporting for expats sets out the essentials, without replacing personal advice.
Data & complaints
What happens to my data if I don’t open an account?
We use your login details, first and last name, selected country, payment details and account activity to operate the service. See the privacy policy for the purposes, recipients, retention and your rights.
Does the website use advertising cookies or trackers?
No. The website uses no advertising cookies or trackers, and your IP address is never stored in clear. Only strictly necessary security cookies may be set, with no advertising identifier.
Who receives my personal data?
Your first and last name are used for your account; payment information is shared with the providers needed to process the payment. To access, correct or delete your data, contact support. See our privacy policy.
How do I make a complaint?
Write to us through the contact form, choose the “Complaint” topic and give the facts, dates, amounts and what you are asking for. Making a complaint costs you nothing, and a complaint about a regulated service is handled under the procedure of the partner that provides it. The steps and response times are set out on our complaints page.
What if I am not satisfied with the answer to my complaint?
You can refer the matter to the competent mediation body named in your contract, or to the competent supervisory authority. The European FIN-NET network can also help you find the right out-of-court body for financial disputes.
