Risk warning
Virtual currencies, real risks. The only guarantee in crypto is risk. Please read the points below before depositing or converting crypto-assets.
Last updated: 10 October 2026
Value and volatility
- The value of crypto-assets can rise or fall sharply, including between your deposit and its conversion. You may lose all of the amount held or converted.
- Stablecoins can lose their peg to the currency they reference.
No guarantee
- Crypto-assets are not covered by deposit guarantee schemes or investor compensation schemes.
- The protection offered by the MiCA regulation is limited and applies only to services provided by authorised providers.
- CryptoIBAN is not a bank. Funds held on a payment or e-money account are not deposits and earn no interest.
Technology
- Crypto-assets depend on specific technology and infrastructure, some of it recent and not yet fully tested.
- Crypto transfers are irreversible: crypto sent to a wrong address or on the wrong network may be lost permanently.
- Losing access to a wallet (password, recovery phrase) means losing its content. We will never ask for your recovery phrase.
Markets
- Rules against market manipulation and insider dealing exist under MiCA, but crypto markets remain exposed to these risks, especially outside the European Union.
Payments and taxes
- Acceptance of crypto as a means of payment is limited and not mandatory: your payees receive euros by SEPA transfer.
- Converting crypto-assets may be taxable in your country of tax residence. We provide neither tax nor investment advice.
