Tax bills
Pay taxes with crypto, by transfer and on time.
You convert your crypto into euros on a Belgian IBAN in your own name, then pay the notice by SEPA transfer, with its exact reference. The tax office receives euros, from you.

How to
Pay taxes with crypto: right amount, right date
Paying taxes with crypto starts with the notice itself: it shows the accepted payment methods, the IBAN to pay and the reference to quote.
-
Check that transfers are accepted
On receipt
Payment methods are listed on the notice or on the tax office’s website. If transfers are among them, note the IBAN and the reference.
-
Convert the amount due
Price shown upfront
Deposit your crypto and convert the sum needed. The firm price, fees included, is presented before you confirm.
-
Send with a margin
By next business day
The transfer is credited by the business day after sending at the latest. Keep a margin: send it a few business days before the deadline.
-
Keep the proof
After sending
The PDF receipt stays in your account. If a reminder arrives, it shows the date, the amount and the reference.
The amount
Convert the exact amount, at the price shown
A tax office expects the amount on the notice, to the cent. So you start from that sum: the quote shows what you convert, the 1% fee and the euro amount that will be paid.
The simulator’s rate is indicative. The firm price is presented just before the conversion, and nothing happens without your confirmation.
Paying with BTC, ETH or SOL? Convert as soon as the notice arrives: their price can move sharply before the deadline.

The reference, and the rest
What goes into your transfer
One notice, one transfer. Each field has its job; the reference, above all, links your payment to your file.
| Field | What you enter | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Payee | The name shown on the notice | It is checked before sending |
| IBAN | The one on the notice, never one from an email | So you don’t pay the wrong account |
| Amount | The exact amount on the notice | A partial payment leaves a balance due |
| Reference | The notice reference, exactly as printed | It links the payment to your file |
| Sending date | A few business days before the deadline | Credited by the next business day at the latest |
Paying two taxes? Send two transfers, each with its own reference.
The conversion itself may be taxable
Converting crypto into euros may be taxable in your country of tax residence. Belgium, for example, has taxed its residents’ capital gains on financial assets, crypto included, at 10% since 1 January 2026. Paying a tax with converted crypto does not settle that question. CryptoIBAN gives no tax advice: ask your tax authority or an adviser before a large conversion.
Our role
What we do, and what we don’t
We take care of
- Converting your crypto at the price you accepted
- Sending the transfer with your reference
- Checking the payee name before sending
- Keeping your receipts and statements
We do not
- Calculate your tax
- File your tax returns
- Advise you on how your crypto is taxed
- Choose when to convert for you
Paying taxes with crypto: common questions
Can I pay my taxes directly in bitcoin?
No: the tax office receives euros. You first convert your bitcoin in your account, then send a SEPA transfer in euros with the notice reference.
Can the tax office refuse my Belgian IBAN?
Within the EU, it cannot require your account to be located in a particular country (Regulation 260/2012, art. 9). If it happens, our guide to IBAN discrimination sets out your options.
How long before the deadline should I send?
At least one business day, since the transfer is credited by the next business day at the latest, and more if the deadline follows a weekend or a public holiday. Also check on the notice which date counts.
Is paying a tax with crypto itself taxable?
The conversion before the payment may be, depending on your country of tax residence. The transfer itself is an ordinary euro payment. We do not give tax advice: ask your tax authority or an adviser.
I live abroad. Can I pay a tax owed in my home country?
Yes, if the tax office accepts transfers. Your account opens wherever you live (except for US persons and sanctioned countries). Our page for expats explains what a Belgian IBAN changes, and what it doesn’t.
Does the tax authority know about my CryptoIBAN account?
Your tax and reporting obligations depend on your country and situation. Keep your transaction records and consult your tax authority or adviser.
